ISLAMABAD: Previously serving as Minister of State for Revenue, Hammad Azhar took oath as federal minister in Islamabad on Monday.

President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to him in a ceremony at Aiwan e Sadr that was attended by cabinet members and parliamentarians.

Azhar also earned plaudits for his composure during the budget session, with Prime Minister Imran Khan saying Azhar had proved himself to be an emerging young leader with the capacity to deliver.

A barrister by profession, he joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2011. He is the son of former Punjab governor Mian Azhar – who started out as a politician in the PML-N and then played a role in the formation of PML-Q.
