From Beyoncé as Nala to Seth Rogan as Pumba, see the striking photos as we wait for the live-action release
Disney just released amazing photos showing the characters from its highly-anticipated Lion King remake and the stars who voice them.
From superstar singer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter with Nala, Men in Black: International star Donald Glover with Simba, and comedian Seth Rogan with Pumba - the striking images are sure getting us even more excited for the film's release, reported Insider.
Jon Favreau will direct the remake, out July 19, which will include James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, as well as a new song from Beyoncé. The new tune is from the original-soundtrack team of Elton John and Tim Rice, and a score composed by Inception's Hans Zimmer.
Let's take a look at some of the photos.
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter with Nala
The Crazy in Love hitmaker plays Nala, who eventually becomes Simba's queen.
In addition to singing Can You Feel the Love Tonight with Donald Glover, the mother of three, 37, has a brand-new song on the Lion King soundtrack. The tracklist for the Disney film was recently released and one song is titled TBA, which could be Bey’s music project.
“We have all the original songs, but there’s a song that she performed and wrote in the spirit of the production along with working with Lebo M., who’s part of it with Hans Zimmer,” Lion King director Jon Favreau confirmed.
Young Nala and Young Simba with the Us actress Shahadi Wright Joseph and JD McCrary from The Paynes
Nala and Simba live a blessed life until king Mufasa's death changes everything. We can't wait to hear the youngsters sing I Just Can't Wait to be King.
The Atlanta and Community actor Donald Glover with Simba
Destined to rule someday, Simba is blamed for his father Mufasa's death and leaves the pride. But he struggles with his identity and must overcome many threats before he can become king.
The Oscar-nominated star Alfre Woodard with Sarabi
The Primal Fear Hollywood actor is playing Sarabi, Mufasa's wife and Simba's mother. She plays the queen that she is in real life too, as ruler of the Pride Lands, in charge of the lionesses and the hunting parties.
12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor with Scar
Mufasa's scheming younger brother is everyone's favourite baddie and Chiwetel is sure to depict him wonderfully. Scar was displaced in the line of succession by his nephew, Simba and aims to take over Pride Rock.
Fans disappointed over Scar's new look in new 'Lion King'
Zazu, Pumbaa, and Timon with HBO talk-show host John Oliver, Knocked Up star Seth Rogen, and comedian Billy Eichner
The three are very loyal to Simba and take on the responsibility of keeping him safe. We especially are looking forward to seeing Seth voice the hilariously clumsy but good-hearted warthog.
Black Panther star Florence Kasumba, comedian Eric Andre and Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key with the meddlesome hyenas Azizi, Shenzi, and Kamari
The three hyenas are Scar's loyal followers and minions but have some zest of their own. Florence is sure to win hearts as leader and sole female of the trio, Shenzi, who was famously voiced by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1994 film.
