Enough evidence to prosecute Rana Sanaullah: Shahryar Afridi

Says Sanaullah's vehicle had been monitored for three weeks, and footages are available to prove the case

State Minister for Narcotics Control Shahryar Afridi on Thursday pledged that the government shall exercise "zero tolerance" against anyone who is involved in drugs in any capacity, Express News reported.

The joint presser took place days after former provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah was arrested after the ANF recovered 15 kilograms of heroin from his possession.

Speaking alongside Director-General Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Major General Arif Malik, Afridi said evidence against PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah for carrying narcotics in his vehicle is intact and will be presented in the court of law.

He said Rana Sanaullah's vehicle had been monitored for three weeks, and footages are available to prove the case.

The minister said 15 kilogram heroin worth Rs150 million in the international market was being carried to Lahore by Rana Sanaullah. He said smuggling of the narcotics abroad would have harmed the image of the country.

He reiterated that laws have been set in place protect people, adding that it was Prime Minister Imran Khan's vision to rid the nation of such practices.

Speaking on the occasion, the DG ANF said the force will prove the case against Rana Sanaullah on the basis of evidence.

He said the conviction rate of ANF case is 95 per cent.

The DG ANF said the force did not seek physical remand of Rana Sanaullah as it has sufficient evidence against him.

He said Anti-Narcotics operation is being carried out across-the-board and we have to net big fish to purge the country of this menace.

Underscoring the need to curb drug trafficking, the ANF chief said that the body had seized over 300 metric tonnes of substances over the last few years.

 

The two leaders also stressed upon the need for a drug-free Pakistan, stating that the contribution of the people would be necessary to achieve that.

"Drugs birth legions of problems in the society and also cause lawlessness," DG ANF maintained.

He added that substance use is hazardous for upcoming generations.
