PTI plea based on false accusations, PML-N tells ECP

Says Maryam Nawaz not involved in party affairs

ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz submitted its reply to the Election Commission of Pakistan stating that Maryam Nawaz has nothing to do with the internal affairs of the party.

Responding to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s plea against her appointment as the PML-N vice president, the party underscored that since Maryam was not involved in the internal affairs of the party the accusations were filed were ‘baseless and false’.

The counsel argued that Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution are applicable on party heads not on officials.

PML-N further appealed the electoral body to impose heavy penalty on Malika Bukhari, the petitioner.

In May, the petition was filed by parliamentary secretaries Farrukh Habib, Malika Bukhari, Kanwal Shauzab and Javeria Zafar.

A three-member bench of the ECP is hearing PTI’s petition states that Maryam cannot hold any party position as she was convicted by a court of law on July 6, 2018 in a corruption case, Avenfield reference, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in view of an apex court order.
