Despite claims from the provincial government that around 80 per cent of the civil works have been completed on the mass transit project being built in Peshawar, the main underground crossing remains shut for pedestrians, creating trouble for residents.
The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has completed the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, but underpasses of the project are closed and residents have to cross packed roads in Hashtnagri, Firdous and Gulbhar or have to walk for a mile to cross the road.
Locals have resorted to climbing over the BRT fence as a short cut. But this is difficult for the elderly and children to navigate heavy traffic on both sides of the road or wait for traffic wardens to help them cross.
Locals have demanded that the underpasses should be reopened immediately.
