'PML-N biggest obstacle in grand opposition alliance'
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the JUI-F chief called on the PML-N leadership to adopt a responsible attitude and change their mindset.
He said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had pledged support to the JUI-F in Senate and that he was confident party candidate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri would be elected leader of the opposition in the upper house of the parliament.
Fazl claimed he was in contact with major opposition parties for an alliance but there were little chances of success.
Differences between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the MQM emerged after the postponement of Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections for three seats representing the Kashmiri Diaspora in Karachi and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The MQM had pulled out of the coalition at the centre as well as in Sindh after it blamed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led government of being ‘autocratic’ and its actions ‘dictatorial’.
It had earlier been reported that at least two top leaders of the PML-N confirmed that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would soon establish ‘direct contact’ with the MQM hierarchy, including its London-based chief, Altaf Hussain. Some other associates of Sharif had been tasked to approach the rightwing opponents of President Asif Ali Zardari’s government, including the JUI-F.
