Biometric chaos

The biometric devices at banks are unable to recognise fingerprints forcing people to go to NADRA for verification.

KECH, BALOCHISTAN: As per the orders of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), banks across the country are supposed to conduct biometric verification of their account holders. Senior citizens also are included. For the younger citizens, the task is relatively easy, as even though it can take up to a few hours, they can sit through the time period. However, this has become a hassle for senior citizens. They are being made to run between their respective bank branch and NADRA, as their fingerprints are not always verifiable. Due to growing age, fingerprints of senior citizens in a majority of cases are not distinguishable and hence verifiable.

The biometric devices at the banks are unable to recognise their fingerprints, and they have no choice but to go to NADRA for verification. I appeal to the State Bank to extend the last date of biometric verification, especially for senior citizens. There are other ways of verification and probably NADRA officials know these. The verification process should be made easy at least for senior citizens. Now the process is tedious.
