ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates said on Thursday that Washington continues to pay the price for abandoning Pakistan at the end of the Cold War and imposing sanctions on the country for its nuclear ambitions. Gates, whose four-and-half year long term ends on Thursday, said that US President Barack Obama has made a lot of efforts to improve ties with Pakistan. He said that Pakistan-US ties have “ebbed and flowed” for decades, adding that the relations are tense at the moment. He also noted that Islamabad terminated a US military training mission in the region. Pak-US ties reached their lowest point in recent history after the Abbottabad raid.
