WANA: Police on Thursday raided the election office of the Awami National Party (ANP) set up in Wana, the headquarters of the South Waziristan tribal district.

Officers arrested the party’s district general secretary Yasin Khan and Ameer Khamza Khan from the office along with scores of party workers. Officers said that the arrests were made under Section 144.

The ANP candidate from the tribal district Taj Wazir claimed that the police and the district administration were using Section 144 as a pretext for curbing political activities of his party.

“The direction is clear that only workers and candidates of the ruling party are allowed to campaign in the area while the rest of the political parties and workers are barred from holding any gathering,” Wazir told The Express Tribune.
