Met dept forecasts pleasant weather for Karachi

City's temperature will drop to 34 degrees Celsius between Monday and Friday

KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that temperature in Karachi would drop by one to two degrees Celsius, decreasing to 34 degrees Celsius, between Monday and Friday, as a result of the increase in the speed of southwestern winds blowing from the sea. Drizzle is also expected in the city on Friday morning.

According to PMD, the speed of southwestern winds in Karachi is expected to rise up to 50 kilometres per hour, which otherwise blow at a speed of 30 kilometres per hour.

However, PMD Director Shahid Abbas said, winds from the sea will likely blow at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour in the morning and their speed will build up during the day and in the evening.

Meanwhile, strong winds were also experienced in the city and its suburbs on Thursday, when the strongest winds were recorded at 44 kilometres per hour.

The increase in the speed of southwestern winds will also cause the height of tides to increase over the next three days. Keeping in view the prediction of high tide, citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution while visiting beaches.

The Met Office has also predicted that weather will remain partly cloudy and light showers will be experienced in Karachi in the first week of July, right before the onset of monsoon.

Monsoon season in the city extends from July 15 to September 15. However, dark clouds begin to hang over the city in the first week of July, causing drizzle.
