Booksmart is a 2019 American coming-of-age comedy film directed by Hollywood actor Olivia Wilde. Malik raved about it and wrote, "So I saw @booksmart a week or so ago in London and was COMPLETELY & UTTERLY inspired by @oliviawilde’s debut feature as a director. It was razor-sharp funny, had gorgeously crafted performances, an incredible soundtrack. This is the DEFINITIVE coming of age film for how I see Gen-z today. And is exactly the kind of thing in substance and tone that I've been wanting to make in Pakistan!"

Wilde also retweeted and replied to Adnan's tweet, writing, "MALALAAAAAA."
OMG! This is everything! Meeting @Malala and making her partake in an inside joke from my favourite film of the year directed by the incredible @oliviawilde. Worlds colliding and women supporting women, and I get to be a conduit (and get retweeted)! Boom! 💥💥💥 https://t.co/5c88X31uiG

In the film, best friend duo Amy and Molly use the word 'Malala' as their code word for a once-a-year, undeniable favour from each other.
But it wasn't just Pakistan's star humanitarian that Adnan met. He also hung out with the likes of APS survivor Walid Khan, Ali Tareen and Khadija Siddiqui which he shared on Instagram in a group picture alongside Malala.

Malik wrote in his Instagram post, "And so today, when I met @malala (for the first time ever properly) at the cricket match in Edgbaston, my synapses surged and I could not NOT make this video. It was a moment of deep empowerment to bring these worlds together! I felt like I was the only one who could facilitate this one very specific thing to help make a real connection happen."

He continued, "And as a Pakistani who studied in the States but lives in Pakistan now, I often feel like I’m not part of the global conversation on culture and the arts. So this was my small way of engaging in something that’s very 'now'."
Adnan's post went viral and caught the attention of some in Hollywood, even getting picked up by the Booksmart Instagram account.
"The Booksmart Insta page reposted it and then Olivia, Katie and Beanie reposted it on Twitter and then Kaitlyn inboxed me and we had a brief chat! And it’s been snowballing across the Internet since," he said after revealing the exciting news.

Adnan continued to chat about how the star-studded meeting made him feel. "The whole thing made me really happy because, for a moment, it connected me in a deeper way to the film that I have loved so much."
