Income disparity

The entire system needs to be changed in order to uplift the poor and remove this disparity

ISLAMABAD: Considering the difficult times our country is going through, it is shocking to see the sharp increase in income and social disparity. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. On the one hand, we have people driving luxury cars that cost millions of rupees, excluding the additional duties they pay for importing them into the country. They have money to spend thousands on a single meal at an upscale restaurant, and host a wedding party for more than a thousand guests. On the other hand, we have the extremely poor, who have made footpaths their temporary homes. They sleep on concrete beds, rarely with enough to eat. They rely on the kindness of the rich. Education of children and a satisfactory healthcare are beyond their means. We also see one-year-olds selling flowers or begging on the streets, barefoot. While the quality of life is improving for one chunk of the population, we must not leave behind the less privileged. The entire system needs to be changed in order to uplift the poor and remove this disparity.
