Minister sees ‘political wisdom’ in PM Imran’s U-turns

Noorul Haq Qadri says government will continue its ‘struggle’ for betterment of masses

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri has said that U-turns taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan in the first 11 months in power were not lies but reflected his ‘political wisdom’.

“[PM] Imran Khan’s U-turns are not lies, but his political wisdom,” he said while speaking to reporters in Quetta on Sunday, Express News reported.

The statement comes against the backdrop of heavy criticism the premier had been facing for going against his earlier stated positions. PM Imran, while hitting back at his critics a few months ago, had defended his decision-making skills, saying a U-turn to reach one’s objective was the hallmark of great leadership.

A week earlier, the prime minister told a select group of journalists that the person who did not take decisions according to the situation was not a true leader.

“One who doesn’t take decisions according to the demand of the situation is not a true leader. [Adolf] Hitler and Napoleon [Bonaparte] would not have suffered losses if they had taken U-turns,” he had said.

The religious affairs minister, in today’s media interaction, also commented on the country’s ongoing political situation, saying the all-parties conference called by the opposition parties bore no significance and encouraged JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to “fulfill all his desires”.

He lauded the government’s initiative of registering the Islamic seminaries and vowed that it would continue its “struggle for the betterment of masses”.
