The right kind of films

Letter June 30, 2011
We need films that encourage the general public to have a questioning sceptical mind

KARACHI: This is with reference to Anwer Mooraj’s article of June 30 titled “A landmark in Pakistan cinema”. We desperately need films that take a critical look at the pervasive religiosity in our society. We need films that encourage the general public to have a questioning sceptical mind so that they don’t accept religious or any other dogma at face value but question its logic. We have lost thousands of our people to religious fanatics yet there is not one movie made in Pakistan which condemns this ideology of fanaticism and militancy. When will we have a movie that says that women are equal to men and are not the personal possessions of men and that women must be given the right to make decisions for themselves?
