Rangers killing: Defence counsel requests case be shifted from ATC

The defence counsel of the Rangers requested that the case be shifted from the Anti-Terrorism Court to another court.

KARACHI: The defence counsel of the Rangers who are on trial for the extra-judicial killing of Sarfaraz Shah on Thursday requested that the case be shifted from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to another court.

The hearing was presided over by Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso in ATC-I and has been adjourned till tomorrow.

Express 24/7 correspondent Ahmed Jung reported that the defence counsel argued that the Rangers should not be tried in an Anti-Terrorism court. However, the Supreme Court made it clear earlier that a charge of extra judicial killing is made under the Anti-Terrorism Act stated in the FIR.

The six Rangers were charged with the murder of Sarfaraz Shah, an unarmed youth who was shot dead at point blank range by the security officials on June 8.

The Rangers claimed innocence yesterday and argued that the action was taken in the line of duty.
