Argentina are pitted in group B against Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar, and were defeated by two first half goals, which didn't please Maradona.

Messi 'bitter' as Colombia stun Argentina

"It makes you think Tonga could beat us," a frustrated Maradona said. "There's a prestige that we built with kicks... from blows. Remember when we all went out to Peru, when we broke the bus... What's left of all that? What is the shirt?"

He continued: "You're offending the shirt."

Meanwhile, Messi knew his team were not good enough and need to put up a better show in the tournament.

“It will take us a while to accept and process the defeat,” he said. “We have to look at the mistakes we made, and find the positives. We have to recover quickly and there is still a chance to qualify.”

Argentina now play Paraguay on Thursday June 20, before taking on Qatar on Monday June 24.
