Hot weather and work

It is cruel to make labourers continue working in the sun in such heat

LAHORE: The country is sizzling as summer temperatures are constantly rising. The heat is unbearable throughout the day and people mostly stay indoors. However, there are many who do not have the luxury to sit at home, as they must step out to earn their living. Construction workers, fruit sellers, cobblers and many suchlike work in the sun for hours. The least we can do is to provide them with cold water and beverages during the day to ensure they remain hydrated and can cool down in the heat. A small effort on our part can make a difference, and potentially save someone from falling victim to heat stroke. The most vulnerable are construction workers. I am of the view that when temperature goes beyond 40 degrees Celsius work should stop. It is cruel to make labourers continue working in the sun in such heat. There should be a law to implement this.
