Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery believes he was unjustly not given the Ballon d'Or in 2013 since Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentinian Lionel Messi had a duopoly over the award.

Ronaldo and Messi have amongst themselves won 10 Ballon d'Or trophies, five each, and Ribery says, in 2013, Portugal forward winning was 'injustice' to him.

"More than a disappointment, it's the biggest injustice of my career. Not only for me, for many people. I was on top and I finished 3rd. I had nothing to envy Ronaldo or Messi that year. I say it in all humility because it is the truth," Ribery was quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

Ribery, who is being tipped to leave German giants Bayern at the end of the month, went all cylinders firing in 2013, scoring 22 goals and notching up 18 assist for the club.

His heroics led Bayern to win the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, despite all that, Ronaldo won the award with 27.99% of the vote for his whopping 66 goals that year. Messi was second in 2013 with 24.72% vote and the Frenchman was third with  23.36% of the vote.
