Restaurant review: Nobby café will make you come back for its desserts

But they can also do a mean beef steak!

KARACHI: The first thing that will catch your eye as you enter the newly opened Nobby cafe is its sophisticated ambiance. With an array of local celebrities making their way to Karachi's new 'it' eatery located on Bokhari commercial, it made us curious to know what was so special about the restaurant. And, our experience told us all!

According to the owner, Saba Jerjees, it's the desserts that attract foodies to Nobby.

"We have a variety of dishes that we consider our specialty," she told The Express Tribune. "But I would definitely say our desserts are simply unique and people have been loving them. We have been hearing a lot of positive reviews about it."

Saba, a physician by profession, revealed the idea of Nobby came about when she decided to dish out low-calorie monthly plans for her clients.

"After a month or two, we decided to hire a team of experts and chefs to shape menu for a restaurant and Nobby came in to vision," she continued. "Most of the menu is comprised of my own recipes. We decided to do a fusion of fine dining with a touch of cafe feels."

We asked Saba to order for us. First up was their signature Stuffed Bell peppers. Topped with cheese, the bell peppers were filled with spinach and cream cheese filling. Even though the stuffing was flavoursome, it was a bit on the heavier side. But the freshness of the bell pepper itself coupled with the rich filling was enough to satisfy our taste buds.

Next, we tried Crab Meat au Gratin. We liked how there was a generous amount of crab meat in the dish. It was served with a perfectly toasted bread on the side. After taking a bite, we realised how important a part that little piece of bread played in uplifting the overall taste.

The last of the appetisers was the Chicken and Mushroom crepe. Sadly, it couldn't compete with the previous two starters.

4

For the mains, Saba ordered Parmesan Chicken and Stuffed Chilli Beef Steak. We asked our steak to be cooked medium-well and were served just that. Kudos to the Nobby cafe staff for their courteous service. While the Parmesan Chicken looked inviting, it failed to leave a mark.

7

Their beef steak, however, was divine. Cooked to perfection, the chillis stuffed with feta cheese added the kick it needed. What we really liked about the mains were the mash potatoes on the side. The dish was seasoned just right and cheesy enough.

6

We also tried one of their sample recipes. Saba told us the chef had made a dish for her to try but she brought it out to the table. The cheese-stuffed steak with poached egg became the star of the night.

8

One thing is for sure: Nobby knows how to nail its steaks.

Now, it was time for the items we had been eagerly waiting for. We were served Molten Lava Cone in a Pot. The lava cake was presented with an ice cream cone upside down but much to our disappointment, there wasn't much lava in it.

9

Next, we tried their signature dessert, Sinfully Yours. We absolutely loved it! The chocolate pudding with berry coulis and brownie bits was divine. We loved the little honeycomb bits added to it and the chocolate disc was crackling.

10

Lastly, we winded up our meal with the Biscoff Lotus Delight. The cookie topped with the ice cream was the perfect dish to conclude our meal.

We now somewhat understand why Saba was so persistent for us to try the desserts. We know we're going back for Sinfully Yours!
