People have become addicted to technological devices

TURBAT: Technology has taken over the lives of everyone. Whether it is a businessman, a teacher, a student, a politician or a common man, technology is controlling us with every passing minute. Cell phones, computers and other devices have become people’s best friends. In fact, technological devices are now used as the primary source of information. It has made learning easy, as well as fun. However, there are a number of dangers associated with technology as well. Research proves that when we are engrossed in using social media, we miss out on real life conversations and relationships. Now people have become addicted to technological devices. People use mobile phones while eating or even while having a cup of tea. People are more interested in online chats rather than face-to-face conversations. Even working people check their social media during their breaks, thinking they can quickly check up on the notifications. A professor at MIT says that every time we shift our focus from one thing to another, there is something called a ‘switch cost’. Our brains stumble and need time to return to where it was before we were distracted. Given this research, it has been proven that multitasking and using a mobile while working ruins people mentally and physically. Our brain is unable to focus on the singular task at hand as we constantly feel we have received a notification and there is an incessant need to check. It is very important for us to control use of cell phone and train our minds to return to its natural way of working.
