Heavy rains accompanied by a thunderstorm are expected to hit Sindh's Tharparkar, Badin and Thatta on Thursday (tomorrow) as the tropical cyclone Vayu has converted into category one, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Sardar Sarfraz, the department's spokesperson, said that the cyclone is 700 kilometre away from Karachi. "No area of Pakistan's coastline in under threat."

He added that Karachi is currently in the grip of heatwave as temperatures have risen above 40 degree centigrade.

Another heatwave may hit Karachi on Thursday

The heatwave, the spokesperson said, would continue for the next few days in the port city.

According to Radio Pakistan, Director Fisheries Sindh has advised fishermen to remain alert and not to venture in deep sea for fishing.

Meanwhile, Vayu cyclonic storm is also expected to hit the coastal towns of Porbandar, Mahua, Veraval and the Union Territory of Diu in India on Thursday (tomorrow).
