Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz reacted on Hamza Shehbaz’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday saying her party would become the voice of the people no matter what the government does.

The PML-N leader took to Twitter and claimed, “Prisons are not new for Hamza and the PML-N. We have fought the injustice of a dictator. This is a frail and fake government, taking last breathes. PTI’s government is a wall of sand.”

She said NAB, which Maryam claimed was operating on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s behest, crossed all limits by arresting Hamza.

“History never forgave such people in the past and will not in the future. Hamza will be victorious because the puppet show is about to end.”

According to Maryam, the recent arrests were made only to distract people's attention from the government’s historic economic failures like economic survey and budget. “You [government] cannot avoid people’s anger. Fallen walls cannot be saved by arrests.”

“In the government, where the entire nation feels like imprisoned, an incompetent prime minister cannot defend himself by arresting the opposition.”

Senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said, “Allegations have been levelled against Hamza but why he has been arrested? Why a remand is sought? These days, arrests are made even before presenting evidence in the court.”

“We do not fear accountability nor prison. However, the motive behind the latest arrests is to defame politics and politicians.”

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb also criticised the government and said, the ongoing political victimisation in the country could not be found anywhere in Pakistan's history.

“Imran Khan is working on a specific agenda. He has ruined our economy in the last 10 months. The inflation percentage has multiplied thrice during this time. We will not let the anti-public and IMF preferred budget passed under any circumstances,” she said while speaking to the media.

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary said the government fulfilled the promise of laying the strong foundation of accountability in the country.

No opposition movement needed to topple PTI govt, says Maryam Nawaz

Talking to the media persons in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said former president Asif Ali Zardari, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz were arrested on the orders of the independent judiciary.

“These arrests have been made on merit and there is no element of political victimisation in it, as the cases were not registered by the PTI government but by the PPP and the PML-N against each other,” said Fawad.

The minister said Imran Khan-led government provided an enabling environment to the institutions to hold the corrupt elements accountable.
