Motorcyclist shot in the neck dies at a hospital in Karachi

Daughter of deceased says she did not see anyone fire the shots

KARACHI: A motorcyclist was injured and later died after sustaining bullet wounds in a firing incident in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Monday.

The deceased was on his way to drop his daughter at Darul Sehat Hospital (DUSH) where she works as a doctor. He was shot in the neck near Rabia City in Block 13, within the jurisdiction of Sharae Faisal Police Station. The injured was shifted to (DUSH) in critical condition where the doctors confirmed his death.

After learning about the incident, the police reached the scene and began the investigation. The police are looking into CCTV footage and the statement of the daughter of the deceased to investigate the case.

Sharae Faisal SHO Safdar Mushwani said that the deceased was identified as 60-year-old Javed Iqbal, son of Qari Abdul Bari. He was a resident of Jaffar Tayar Society, Malir and his daughter, Sadaf, is a doctor who is completing her house job at DUSH.

The police have also obtained CCTV footage of the incident according to which, the firing incident took place at 8:56am. People gathered after he and his daughter fell off from the motorcycle, shortly after the gunshots.

The daughter said that she did not see anyone fire the shots. She added that they did not have any enmity with anyone.

SHO said that the police had taken into custody a 30-bore pistol sheath which they seized from the scene.  It has been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination, he said adding that the body has been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
