Clearing entrance test is mandatory for admission, says KU registrar

Karachi University (KU) Registrar Dr Saleem Shahzad announced admission schedule for MPhil, PhD, MS and MD Programme 2019 on Saturday.
He said that admissions are open in the various departments at KU including faculty of arts and social sciences, science, law, medicine, pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, management and administrative sciences, education and Islamic studies.

The KU registrar said that candidates seeking admissions in MPhil and MS, with course work resulting in terminating degree, must have at least 16 years of education, which requires MA, MLIS, MSc, MBA, BBA of four-years, MAS, MCom, BS of four-years, B-Pharm, Pharm-D, MBBS, BDS, DVM, BS or BE Engineering or equivalent qualification with at least second division in the relevant field from an Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognised institution.

However, he mentioned that candidates with MBBS, BDS, DVM or equivalent qualification would be required to successfully complete 15-credit hour courses before undertaking MPhil courses.
Dr Shahzad also said that for admission in MS (Surgery) and MD (Medicine), candidates having MBBS, BDS or equivalent qualification from a recognised university should have at least one-year house job experience with valid Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) registration.


According to Dr Shahzad, degree holders of MS (Surgery) and MD (Medicine) are eligible for admissions in PhD subject to completion of deficiency courses prescribed by Departmental Research Committee (DRC) of the related departments. Meanwhile, he said, candidates having MPharm, MPhil, MBA with four year BBA, LLM, which is only applicable for faculty of law, or its equivalent qualification in the relevant field from an HEC recognised university can apply.

He further said that admissions would be granted on the basis of test and interview which would be conducted by the respective DRC in accordance with the instructions given in the Admission Prospectus, 2019. He added that Admission Prospectus-2019, entrance test form (ETF) and fee voucher could be downloaded from the Karachi University website (www.uok.edu.pk) from June 10 to 18. He advised that candidates carefully read and fill the ETF and submit Rs4,500 non-refundable processing fee in the banks in KU through fee vouchers.

The registrar said that candidates must submit ETF and paid fee voucher slip to the respective departments latest by June 18.
The candidates for PhD Law and MS or MD, will need to deposit Rs10,000 non-refundable in the School of Law and Advanced Studies and Research Board, respectively before the deadline.

He clarified that the KU entrance test was mandatory for candidate and list of candidates eligible to appear for the test would be put on uploaded on the KU website on July 2. These candidates would be required to collect admit cards from July 3 to 12 from the respective departments, centres, and institutes.

The entrance test would be held on July 14 at 10am and candidates are advised to report at 9:30am at their respective test centres. They should bring their admit cards and original CNIC. The list of successful candidates would be announced on KU's website on July 31.
