Forest dept to plant 5m saplings

The project will help in arresting environmental pollution and also make the province green

FAISALABAD: The forest department has decided to plant 5 million saplings across the province under a mega tree plantation project. An official of the forest department said on Monday that about 6,500 acres of land under the forest department was vacant in Punjab where 5 million saplings can be planted. He added that a total 1,500 acres of land was vacant in Faisalabad region where 1.1 million saplings will be planted and a tree plantation campaign will start at the end of the current month. He further said that the entire paperwork has been completed to kick off the mega tree plantation project. The project will help in arresting environmental pollution and also make the province green. The forest department has prepared a nursery of various trees including Sheesham, Keekar, Sukhchain, Neem, Bakain, Barry and Jamon.
