Rahman also appreciated the efforts of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) in compiling a comprehensive scientific report on “Disaster Management: Rains in Karachi, Impact on Civic Services, Some Problems & Solutions”.
The report encompasses almost all the issues related to rains in Karachi and focuses on the adverse effects of rainfall on the city’s infrastructure.
Rahman commended SSUET’s efforts in a letter to SSUET chancellor Z A Nizami, who replied that, “The university prepares public service reports on regular basis from its own means and sources to support local authorities.”
Meanwhile, rain water is being pumped out of all underpasses in Shah Faisal Town, the area’s administrator, Kamal Mustafa said during an inspection tour of the area with MPA Nishat Mohammed Zia Qadri on Tuesday.
“Sanitation work is being carried out on an emergency basis at Kala Chapra, Asifabad, Madam Apartments, UC-7 and railway underpasses in Siddiqi Goth,” said Mustafa, who added that the town’s underpasses should be operational by the end of the day and the roads should be repaired soon.
