Skardu's Muhammad Ali Sadpara has become the country's only mountaineer to have climbed seven peaks of over 8,000 metres in the world, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Wednesday.

According to the military's media wing, Sadpara mounted the 8,485-metre Makalu peak, the world's fifth highest mountain, on May 24.

The expedition was facilitated by Pakistan Army.

Makalu is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas, southeast of Mount Everest on the border between Nepal and China. It is an isolated peak whose shape is a four-sided pyramid.

Meanwhile, another mountaineer Mirza Ali Baig, who hails from Hunza, also became the first Pakistani to scale seven summits in seven continents after successfully climbing Mount Everest on May 22, the communique added.
