ISLAMABAD: The government has announced a four-day public holiday on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday, the holidays will start from June 4 (Tuesday) and run until June 7 (Friday).

Eidul Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramazan, during which Muslims all over the world observe 30 days of fasting.

With Saturday and Sunday succeeding the holidays, government employees would be able to enjoy a six-day long weekend and can further extend it to nine days if they are able to get their leave approved for June 3 (Monday).

CCI to decide on lunar calendar after Eid

The Ministry of Science and Technology, under its new minister Fawad Chaudhry, has already launched the country’s first moon sighting website and according to its newly-formulated five-year lunar calendar, Eidul Fitr will fall on June 5 this year.
