This was disclosed in a detailed post-mortem report of the girl, Farishta, which the police received on Monday.
Police sources stated that per the report, there was a large wound on the girl’s stomach, possibly caused by a dagger. It added that the cause of death was due to excessive bleeding.
The report further said that the wild animals had ravaged different parts of her body.
Moreover, it said that because the body had been dumped in the forest for a while, it was infested with worms, which made evidence collection difficult.
When contacted, a senior police officer told The Express Tribune confirmed that they had received the girl’s autopsy report.
He added that in light of the post-mortem report, they were now banking on DNA tests, conducted by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) to trace the culprits.
“This is the only way left because we found the girl’s body days after she was killed and dumped,” he said.
The officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that PFSA had advised solving the case along the lines of the Lahore case, where a young girl had been raped and murdered by a faith healer.
