KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for four absconding suspects who were said to be involved in the assassination of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Ali Raza Abidi.

The ATC heard the trial of detained suspects allegedly involved in Abidi’s murder and ordered non-bailable warrants for the absconding offenders.

The Counter-Terrorism  Department (CTD) booked and detained four suspects —Mohammad Farooq, Abdul Haseeb, Mohammad Ghazali and Abu Bakar — in the murder case.

However, the detained suspects had alleged that four absconding accomplices Bilal, Hasnain, Faizan and Ghulam Mustafa were involved in the murder.

The investigation officer submitted that the four suspects absconding in the case had not been arrested yet. The officer sought arrest warrants for the absconding offenders. The court ordered non-bailable warrants for arrest of the absconders and adjourned hearing till May 31.

Abidi, a former lawmaker, was shot dead by armed motorcyclists near his residence in Defence Housing Authority, Phase-V, on Dec 25 last year.
