ISLAMABAD: Accusing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman of being biased and trying to defame politicians belonging to opposition parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced on Tuesday that he would make the statements of his assets -- which he had submitted to the anti-graft body -- available online.
“Accountability is only for our party and the only way for someone to save their skin is to join the government ranks,” the former prime minister said at a news conference in Islamabad.
“The NAB chairman [Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal] has no right to hurl baseless allegations against politicians and take sides,” he added.
“Aleem Khan [Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader] gets bail but [ex-principal secretary to the PM] Fawad Hasan Fawad and [ex-LDA DG] Ahad Cheema don’t,” he noted.
“How will bureaucrats continue working in these circumstances? Such actions are detrimental to the country’s cause.”
Abbasi said there was no truth in reports that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had met the NAB chairman.
He added that false rumours were being spread that PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif had agreed to pay a hefty amount of money to NAB.
“The NAB chairman’s claim that the PML-N leadership is trying to strike a deal with the anti-graft body is nothing but a lie.”
The PML-N leader maintained that NAB was using all of its resources to ensure that Nawaz remained in jail over bogus charges.
“It [NAB] has been instrumental in laying waste to the Pakistan’s economy.”
