Now, the short film Rani has been announced by GrayScale Production. The film, which has already been at various international platforms, will also been screened at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.
The news was shared via Facebook. “Rani has been selected by the London Film Academy to be part of a special showcase of films, at the Short Film Corner of the Festival de Cannes! The Short Film Corner runs from May 20 till May 25, at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival,” GrayScale Productions posted in a statement.
Rani stars Kami Sid, who plays a toy vendor planning to adopt an abandoned child. From there, the tale is a unique story about a Pakistani transgender woman who faces many challenges, yet is determined to do the right thing. The story is also set in the heart of Karachi.
Kami is a model and activist who hopes to awaken viewers to the fact that transgender's are a part of society and can earn a respectable living just like any other citizen.
Written and directed by Hammad Rizvi, the film has already bagged awards from international festivals like the Special Jury Award for Impact at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival 2019 and the Best Narrative Short Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in March.
