Gang-rape suspects, victim taken to Lahore for DNA tests

Rawat police said that they have recovered the car which had been used in the crime

RAWALPINDI: The four men who had allegedly gang-raped the 20-year-old girl in Rawalpindi were separately moved to Lahore on Monday by two police teams under strict security to conduct their DNA tests.

The Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) will cross-match samples obtained from the victim and the suspects to definitively ascertain the crime. A senior police official told The Express Tribune that the suspects will return to Rawalpindi after their DNA samples have been taken. He added that further investigations will continue in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, the Rawat police said that they have recovered the car which had been used in the crime. It was disclosed that the suspects had rented the car from one of the myriads of car rental establishments in the city.

The four suspects, including three Rawalpindi policemen, are currently in police custody on a five-day physical remand.

They are due back in court on May 24 City Police Officer (CPO) Faisal Rana said that they were treating the incident as a test case, adding that the suspects, if proven guilty, will not be spared.
