Lift wrongly parked vehicles, CTO tells cops

Acknowledges handling Iftar rush is very trying

RAWALPINDI: Chief Traffic Officer Mohammad Bin Ashraf has directed traffic policemen and officers to ensure smooth flow of traffic near Iftar time.

However, he has asserted that traffic police should keep a courteous behaviour with people.

Even if dealing with traffic rules violators, keep calm and composed and be courteous, he said.

He directed all DSPs and inspectors to take up position on extreme rush points and use professional prowess to clear traffic during Iftari rush. Bin Ashraf acknowledged that performing duty in Ramazan requires lots of patience: “remember fasting is a lesson for sacrifice and patience.”

He said wrongly parked bikes and cars should be lifted and impounded immediately.

There should be no complaints of traffic jams due to wrong parking, bin Ashraf said.

He further directed traffic wardens and field officers to take strict action against double and wrong parking of vehicles which create hurdles in smooth flow of traffic on city roads.

According to the CTO, all the field officers including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Inspectors had been directed to take strict action in accordance with the law against double parking, wrong parking and one-way violators particularly in congested areas to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Ramazan.

He urged the motorists to demonstrate patience while driving before Iftar and not to park vehicles in a wrong way on roads which causes inconvenience for other road users.

CTO said that traffic police had made special arrangements to control traffic on the city roads aimed at avoiding traffic mess particularly in Ramazan.

Traffic police officers had been directed to keep a vigilant eye on suspicious vehicles, he said and added strict action had been ordered against vehicles having tinted glasses or moving in the city without number plates.

He urged the citizens to cooperate with Traffic Police so that traffic problems could be resolved and people could be facilitated regarding smooth flow of traffic.

Enhanced number of Traffic Wardens had been deployed at busy roads to clear wrong parking while lifters were also available to lift vehicles and motorcycles parked in a wrong way, he added.

He said, wrong parking which was one of main cause of traffic mess on the roads would not be tolerated adding the vehicles and motorcycles found parked out of parking area would be impounded.
