PESHAWAR: Despite a deadline by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government to end the protest, the strike of doctors in the province entered the third day on Friday.

In all major hospitals of K-P, the protesting doctors suspended services at the out-patient departments (OPDs).

On May 15, doctors associations across the province denounced K-P Health Minister Dr Hisham Inamullah’s highhandedness against a senior faculty member of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on the night of May 14.

K-P hospitals shut against manhandling of doctors

The K-P Doctors’ Council also sought resignation of the Lady Reading Hospital BOG Chairman Dr Nowsherwan Burki. Dr Burki was egged by KTH Assistant Professor Dr Ziauddin Afridi while he was attending the board of governors meeting.

KTH also formed a four-member committee to probe the incident.

On Friday, doctors staged demonstrations demanding action against the provincial health minister and his security guards for allegedly thrashing the hospital’s official.

They demanded registration of FIR against the health minister.

Meanwhile, government hospitals across K-P remained closed while the helpless patients continued complaining about the protests.

Many patients remained unattended by the medical staff in the hospitals.
