Social and moral awareness

Letter May 15, 2019
Thanks to the same social media that has time and again unveiled how two-faced such public figures are

LAHORE: Lately and rightly so, social media has played an active role in pointing and calling out entertainment industry figures for their insensitive and derogatory attitude and comments on issues the society to date struggles against. From being mockful of the set crew to making casual jokes on transgender persons and paedophiles, Pakistani celebrities are all but critically short on being mindful of their own actions and words.

Many of them portray themselves as ones holding awareness of such issues yet almost the same majority has on one occasion or the other proven otherwise. Thanks to the same social media that has time and again unveiled how two-faced such public figures are. Who then often go on with justifying with what they meant, how the comment made was an inside joke and how people need to reflect upon themselves rather than pointing fingers at others.

Unfortunately, the younger lot who has risen to fame quickly compared to the senior ones is devoid of moral and ethical values. Yet, on the brighter side, those schooling them on social media platforms belong to the socially and morally aware younger generation.
