Adequate healthcare facilities and qualified doctors are the need of the hour in the rural areas

TURBAT: A healthy population comprises one that is mentally, physically and socially sound. Unfortunately, Pakistan has an abysmal record on this count; especially in case of women. The maternal mortality rate is one of the highest in South Asia. Women die from avoidable complications during childbirth for the lack of basic healthcare facilities. Moreover, social stigmas and a conservative attitude towards the female anatomy act as a major deterrent for women from seeking timely medical attention. As a result, women often resort to homebirths, especially in tribal and rural areas. The absence of trained medical professionals increases the chances of complications and endangers the mother and child. Adequate healthcare facilities are the need of the hour in the rural areas, along with doctors and medically trained midwives to cater to the needs of women.
