RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has decided to impose new rates of Rs10 per hour for motorbikes parked at large markets and trading centres within the remits of the cantonment.

Moreover, it has been decided to put up digital screens in the markets for advertisements.

The new rates will be imposed and the screens will be put up along Bank Road, Haider Road, Kashmir Road, King Road, Singharpur Plaza, Hospital Road, and Adamjee Road.

The digital screens will be put up along Haider Road up to Mahfooz Road and from the General Post Office (GPO) chowk on Kashmir Road to Adamjee Road.

The RCB estimates that a large number of visitors and employees frequent these areas where there are over 8,000 government and private offices and trading centres and stores.

The parking rent from motorbikes will be charged from 8am to midnight in the Saddar area. With around 10,000-15,000 motorbikes on average parked at the markets on a daily basis, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) hopes to raise a substantial sum. The contract for this system is expected to be auctioned next week on May 15 and implement it from June 1, just in time for the main Eid shopping rush.
