PFA teams visit stalls in Ramazan bazaars

Food safety teams discard 1,705 kg of unwholesome food

LAHORE: Following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Punjab Food Authority is taking all necessary steps to ensure the provision of healthy and adulteration-free safe food during the holy month of Ramadan across the province.

In this connection, food safety teams have visited 8,302 small and big stalls at Ramazan bazaars in the last three days. The food safety teams have discarded 1,705 kg unwholesome food including 900 kg spoiled fruits and 805 kg rotten vegetables as well as served warning notices for improvement to 1,460 stallholders over minor violations of the PFA Act.



PFA Director General Captain (retd) Usman said teams not only discarded the impure food items but also collected the samples of 17 essential commodities for laboratory tests. He said PFA was checking Ramazan bazaars on a regular basis. He said food the authority in collaboration with concerned administration working to ensure the supply of quality food in the make-shift bazaars.

The director general further said no compromise on the quality of food items would be made and strict action would be taken against the responsible (violators) in order to maintain the defined standard for the foodstuff in the Punjab Pure Food Regulations 2018.
