A major chunk of the conversation revolved around her mother who passed away in 2017. While Sanam is still learning to cope with the loss, she penned a heartfelt note to her mother on her second death anniversary.

"Death has always been something I viewed as an inevitable part of life. I subconsciously always kept myself prepared for it, so when the time came sooner or later I could brace myself for the loss of a loved one," she shared in an Instagram post with several pictures of her mother.
"Oddly enough it helped when that time came sooner rather than later. Also they say you're never prepared for death and it's true but I'm glad I got to say goodbye and spend my undivided time with my mother in her last year," added Sanam. "I never thought I'd write public posts about her. But it's hard not to honour, remember and talk about such a wonderful being."

The Bachaana star continued, "Her high spirits and electric energy. Her hearty uninhibited laughter. Her integrity her stamina, her generosity and pure heart. She has shaped every iota of my being. Kept my feet on the ground but encouraged me to reach for the skies at the same time. Taught me compassion and respect for all people, things and values. Instilled a strong sense of humility and gratitude in me. Reminded me to never lose touch with the inner child, and drove home the essence of being straightforward and honest as much as possible."
Saeed mentioned so many people remember her mother fondly and keep sharing stories about her.

"She rubbed off on everyone whose path she crossed. The stories the gratitude the love and memories random people share with me every now and then is heartwarming. Thank you for always remembering her too."
Earlier, Sanam revealed how her upbringing shaped her personality.
“My mother was an art school teacher and my father was an interior designer. So we’ve been relatively open minded as opposed to my conservative maternal side.”

Her parents’ love marriage was quite unusual, disclosed Sanam. With both childhood sweethearts enrolled in the same school, her mother’s family wasn’t all that thrilled when they found out about Sanam’s father. This was primarily because he belonged to a different ethnicity. However, they fought against all odds and soon got married when they both turned 30.
“The memories I can gather now of my parents are quite contradicting. My mother was the disciplinarian and my dad was the rule breaker,” said.

Despite her roaring success, Sanam attributed her calm and poised characteristics to her upbringing. “I think our parents made sure that we were very secure as human beings. Since there’s no insecurity, there’s no competition. Therefore, I am very content with what I have and who I am as a person,” said the Firaq star.
Previously, Sanam shared she couldn't balance her marriage and mother's deteriorating health. “I realised it was unfair to my husband to have my divided attention. I understood he deserved better and should go for that. He deserved the attention of a partner, not another headache and I didn’t want to share my time with anyone else but my mother. So when I finally gave up, I had a sense of relief.”
