Commissioner orders setting up of task force for ‘Rabies Free Karachi’

KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani met on Tuesday with Dr Naseem Salahuddin, the head of infectious diseases department at Indus Hospital which is running a ‘Rabies Free Karachi’ project. They discussed dog bite cases and the need to create awareness in the community through mobilisation at the grassroot level.

Dr Salahuddin and her delegation briefed the commissioner about the organisation’s activities. Shallwani appreciated the efforts of the organisation and assured them that their demands of cooperation and assistance by governmental and allied agencies would be ensured.

The commissioner directed for the establishment of a task force, headed by Additional Commissioner-II Ghulam Murtaza Memon and comprising assistant commissioners and revenue officers, relevant agencies and Rabies free Karachi representatives, for awareness campaigns, trainings sessions and treatment of dog bites, mass dog vaccination and animal birth control process.
