Plastic fishing nets

This premature fishing is causing an imbalance in the marine ecosystem

KECH, BALOCHISTAN: In the past, fishermen would use threaded nets made of natural materials. Nets made of nylon and plastic are being used now. This poses a serious risk to marine life, as it catches all kinds of organisms, including small fish that need more time to grow but cannot pass through the small holes in the nets. This premature fishing is causing an imbalance in the marine ecosystem. These nets are imported from Korea, Japan, etc. and also manufactured locally. According to the researchers, the fish cannot survive for long, since the younger ones are slowly being destroyed by the nets. The authorities and fishermen’s associations should carry out inspections and ban the use of plastic nets to conserve our marine life.
