ISLAMABAD: Provincial authorities have launched a mobile-based health reporting system in Balochistan through support of USAID. Balochistan Additional Chief Secretary Abdul Rehman Buzdar inaugurated the new health reporting system in the presence of USAID, WHO and UNFP representatives.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Rehman Buzdar termed launching of the facility in five districts a big milestone and hoped that the project will lead to remarkable improvements in health sector.

“Balochistan is the biggest province of the country in terms of land area. Due to sparsely spread population, it has been facing a lot of issues in provision of health facilities in different areas.”

He lamented that Balochistan has lagged behind all other regions and performed worse in all development indicator. Infant mortality rate in Balochistan is also dangerously high while it is extremely difficult to obtain accurate data for health indicators, he said.

The additional secretary hoped that the reporting system will improve the sector to some extent through provision of health data. Officials representing USAID, WHO and UNFP also spoke during the inauguration ceremony.
