Construction work on Rawalpindi Art Gallery has been completed with the cost of Rs15million and Chief Minister of Punjab will inaugurate it soon.
In order to promote the traditional culture and literature, the Punjab Art Council (PAC) has prepared a comprehensive plan for the new gallery.
“It will provide healthy recreational opportunities to the residents and will be equipped with all latest facilities,” said an official.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had allocated the land for the construction of a public park, a cricket stadium, a hockey stadium and an art gallery at Shamsabad in front of Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi. He had inaugurated these projects when he was the chief minister of Punjab in the 80s.
Punjab Art Council Executive Director Ghulam Mustafa said, “This is our plan to save the Punjabi traditional culture and literature.”
He added art councils will be established in Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan as part of this plan.
Talking to The Express Tribune, he said, the art gallery will serve as the foundation stone towards the promotion of art and artisans and national-level exhibitions will be organised here.
