Lowari Tunnel: Early completion of project demanded

Dr Arbab Alamgir directed the National Highway Authority to negotiate with the Lowari Tunnel contractor.

Federal Communications Minister Dr Arbab Alamgir directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to negotiate with the Lowari Tunnel contractor to speed up work on the project and complete the tunnel according to schedule.


He was presiding over a high level meeting on the project held here on Saturday. Alamgir was told that the current width of the tunnel is 5.3 metres.

However, it needs to be extended to 7.3 metres for a single carriageway. He was also told that the project will take four years and
Rs3 billion per annum to complete.

The minister directed NHA to ensure the provision of the required funds for the project and assured that the outstanding amount of Rs2.11 million would be paid to the contractor at the earliest.
