Asfandyar Wali Khan vows to defend provincial autonomy

PESHAWAR: After being elected unopposed as the president of Awami National Party (ANP) for the sixth time, Asfandyar Wali Khan reiterated resolve to resist any bid to impose presidential rule.

Speaking at the ANP central council meeting, the re-elected party chief said they would never allow fidgeting with the 18th Constitutional Amendment which gives greater autonomy to provinces.

Asfandyar said though PTI blames everything on the past governments, it has acquired finance minister of the PPP regime. PTI cabinet has 22 unelected people as part of an elected government.

He said that there was targeted victimisation of opponents of PTI and demanded across the board accountability.

Earlier, the entire central cabinet of ANP was elected unopposed with mutual consensus during the electoral meeting of the central council.

Mian Ifikhar Hussain was elected as Central Secretary General for the second time and Ameer Haider Khan Hoti as Senior Vice President while former Senator Zahid Khan as Central Secretary Information.

Other members included Hidayatullah Khan Secretary Finance, Saleem Khan Deputy Secretaary General, Aaqil Shah Secretary foreign relation committee, Hussain Shah Vice President, Additional General Secretary Sahib Jan Kakar, Syed Laiq Bacha Secretary Culture, Amar Jeet Malhotra Secretary Minority Affairs and Farooq Bangash Secretary Labour.

Earlier, all the candidates withdrew their papers from the contest paving the way for the unopposed election of the central cabinet.
