Govt urged to recognise civil liberties

CSJ executive director said a prosperous and truly sustainable economy is dependent on the quality of civil liberties

A research study titled ‘Defining national interest in human development’ was launched under the auspices of Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) and the Pakistan Human Rights Defenders Network (PHRDN). Speakers debated upon the correlation between rights organisation and the economic and human wellbeing of the country. The study was authored by Dr Qais Aslam and Peter Jacob and assessed the impact of Pakistan’s INGOs and NGOs regulation policy in the economic developmental and relational markers.

CSJ Executive Director Peter Jacob said that a prosperous and truly sustainable economy is dependent on the quality of civil liberties available in any country. He urged the government to make efforts to increase democratic space for civil society. Economist Dr Qais Aslam stated that the study identifies that the stringent regulation policy for INGOs will gravely affect international relations, dissuade international community from providing support to human development, and increase unemployment.
