Indian claims and credibility

The Pulwama attack was also used by India to stir up tensions with Pakistan

KARACHI: Soon after the attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, India claimed that it had shared intelligence about the attacks beforehand, with the Sri Lankan government. The immediate response to this is to question the credibility of the Indian intelligence apparatus, since the organisation itself is known to have been involved in the Sri Lankan civil war. It has also been involved in attacks across the region, including in Pakistan in 1971, which led to the separation of East Pakistan. The presence of Indian Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan is another recent example of Indian interference, and the case is in progress in the International Court of Justice.

The Pulwama attack was also used by India to stir up tensions with Pakistan. Indian attempts to isolate Pakistan from the global community were so slipshod that they became a laughing stock for the entire world, to the point that Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj had to retract her government’s ludicrous claim of killing more than 300 terrorists in what Delhi calls a surgical strike inside Pakistan.

Given such circumstances, should the Sri Lankan government and the world even take Indian claims seriously with regard to the recent attacks in Sri Lanka?
