NCHD workers continue protest outside parliament

Workers demand government restore 16,000 employees and provide funds to NCHD.

ISLAMABAD: Workers of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) on Saturday continued their protest, against the government’s decision to wind up the commission, for a third day outside parliament on Saturday.

The government had transferred the commission to the provinces under the 18th Amendment. But after the provinces rejected the transfer – citing lack of funds – the government decided to abolish the public organisation.

The action committee of the NCHD has demanded that the government restore 16,000 workers who will be unemployed because of the abolishment, which will also leave 500,000 students without access to education.

The committee said that if the provinces were not ready to take the responsibility then the federal government should.

Convener of the committee, Abdul Rehman said the protests would continue till the government accepted their demands.

Shuaib Ahmad | 13 years ago | Reply NHCD was basically working on adult literacy and health and a country needs these services all the time. Instead of abolishing it must be regularized. If a new institution is established from the start it will need more funds. If the organisation was not giving the required results, more efficient and competent management must be selected for improvement.
