Judges of lower courts across Punjab staged a protest on Friday against the abusive behaviour displayed by lawyers, Express News reported.

The judges boycotted the courts and conducted proceedings of only the important cases in their chambers.

Seeking action against the lawyers, the judges said that there had been an increase in the abusive behaviour of lawyers towards judges which included threats and torture.

The protest comes in the wake of the Jaranwala incident that took place on Thursday when a lawyer smashed the head of a senior civil judge with a chair in a local court during proceedings.

According to Express News, advocate Imran Manj attacked the civil judge, Khalid Mehmood Waraich, with a chair over a minor dispute and escaped the scene unchallenged.

The injured was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Sources, privy to the development, said the medico-legal certificate has been acquired to take legal action against the accused lawyer.

In another incident, lawyers in the district court allegedly misbehaved with a judge and then locked the courtroom announcing a boycott of her court.
